The first of many posts…

RETRO MATADOR STUDIOS / THE SCENE

Welcome to The Scene.

Every story has a beginning. Here's ours.

We launched our website to better serve the community and showcase what we are all about. The work we have been doing over the years has added up to this moment. We'll use this blog to journal along the way and keep you posted on our latest activities.

Where do I start?

This year we went back to work and hit the 48-hour Film Project in Dallas with our Petrichor Motion Picture family. We developed Last Call during the competition and finally captured the top prize: Best Film.

What ensued was a huge burst of passion. Elijah and I have lost a lot over the last two years, and we've been dealing with the aftermath by doing our best to maintain stability. Working on films with our friends was the most rewarding thing I could have experienced at a time when I'm sure we really needed it.

"Creating is the best, and when we have the opportunity, we have to engage."

After the 48, we also helped out with the final season of Panther City Film Festival out in Ft. Worth. That time was one of the most impactful moments for me. Getting a chance to interview so many filmmakers and just being inspired by people who love film was peak.

Sean and Katie Furey ran that thing amazingly, and I was blessed that they looked to me to help out.

The Spark

What came next was an itch, an itch to work on something again. So I did what I do best… I bugged the mess out of my brother, my best good friend (one of them at least).

I told Elijah…

"Let's make something… I just want to make something."

What he said to me started something I hadn't yet quite conceived…

THE WORDS THAT STARTED IT

"Ok then, Producer… PRODUCE!"

That's all I needed to hear.

Building Retro Matador Studios

Here we are months into our newly formed company, Retro Matador Studios. We've accomplished so much in that time.

We've produced our first film, Big Shoes to Fill. It's a screenplay Elijah had been working on since the year before, and it really made us believe we were about to do something special.

It's an incredible experience when you build a story from the start and turn it into a full-fledged film.

We got a chance to work with our incredible team and team up with new people as well. Partnering with Prophecy Productions and working with our Petrichor family made this dream a reality.

Becoming Tango the Clown and sharing the screen with some incredibly talented actors and my daughter (you did amazing, baby girl! Go Lola!) was surreal.

We can only hope that the joy we had creating it translates to the audiences as it makes its way into the world.

The People Behind the Dream

Family and friends have been the anchors here; my wife and my kids' support have enabled me to follow my dreams.

Elijah's family is no different; we are all involved, trying to make an impact. Without them, we wouldn't be here doing this.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us along the way! We are doing this for us, for y'all, and for everyone!

Just like Big Shoes to Fill, Retro Matador Studios' journey is barely beginning, so tune in because we have such sights to show you.
